NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)
U.S. national center for weather and climate data, publishing station observations, storm event records, and climate datasets under NOAA open-access policies.
What NOAA National Centers for Environmental… offers
10 sourcesOngoing global historical database of related tsunami source-event and observed runup-location tables, spanning 2100 BC to the present. It emits event source/time/location, cause, validity, magnitude/intensity, maximum water height and historical effects plus runup observation location, arrival/travel time, measurement type, water height, horizontal inundation and location effects. Reporting is heterogeneous and is neither a completeness claim nor prospective hazard. Pin DOI 10.7289/V5PN93H7, retrieval date/query and API schema.
A separately named Version 2 station summary product publishing hourly, daily, and monthly observations in station-year CSV files and monthly summary forms. It is derived from NCEI station datasets but has its own documented 125-column CSV schema, metric bulk files, U.S.-focused station coverage with limited U.S. Air Force locations abroad, and standing per-station/year plus all-station archive access.
Ongoing global historical database of significant volcanic eruptions from 4360 BC to present. An event qualifies if it caused fatalities, caused moderate damage (about USD 1 million or more), had VEI 6+, generated a tsunami, or was associated with a significant earthquake. HazEL emits event timing, volcano identity/location, VEI, fatality agents, direct eruption effects, combined associated effects, comments, and association IDs. It is not the complete GVP catalogue, a current-alert feed, or a prospective hazard model.
Free governmental U.S. bulk CSV database of NWS-documented significant weather events. Event-detail and location files identify episodes/events, event type, begin/end time, reporting source, hail or wind magnitude and magnitude type, flood cause, and linked event locations. These are reported/certified event records, distinct from radar estimates.
Integrated daily land-station climate dataset from more than 100,000 stations in 180 countries and territories. It supplies station-day temperature, precipitation, snowfall, snow depth, wind, weather-type, and per-datum attribute fields. NOAA provides station files, an all-stations archive, CDO, and the NCEI Access Data Service. Some non-U.S. WMO-contributed data may have commercial-use or re-export restrictions.
Existing daily station-summary Source derived from ISD observations. Preserve its API and bulk-file access, add exact GSOD scalar fields beyond the existing minimum-temperature and precipitation fields, and clarify that wind is emitted in knots rather than converted mph. Some non-U.S. WMO-contributed data may have commercial-use or re-export restrictions.
Global hourly and synoptic surface-observation product integrating more than 100 source formats into one ISD schema. It publishes station and observation identifiers, UTC timestamps, coordinates, temperature, wind, gust, precipitation, present-weather, and embedded quality codes through NCEI Access Data Service and bulk Global Hourly files.
Versioned global multi-agency tropical-cyclone best-track collection. NCEI merges recent and historical agency tracks and publishes v04r01 as complete and subset CSV, NetCDF, and shapefile downloads. The product includes best and provisional tracks; release/version identity is v04r01 and the landing page supplies its update schedule. It is not a substitute name for native HURDAT2.
Pinned archival U.S. event dataset covering 403 disasters from 1980–2024. Costs are total direct economic losses from insured and uninsured sources, not insured losses. Pin to accession 0209268 v21.21, revised 2025-01-21.
Governmental NEXRAD product family providing archived Level-II base radar data and Level-III algorithm products. Level-II files contain volume scans of base quantities; Level-III includes reflectivity, precipitation estimates, hail index, storm tracking, and other radar-derived products. This is radar measurement/algorithm output, not reported ground truth. NCEI presents Level II and Level III as data types within one NEXRAD archive product, so delivery services and radar moments are not split into Sources.
