Wind gust speed
The observed, reported, measured, or estimated wind gust speed for an event, on the basis and date stated by the source.
Sources that carry it
12 sourcesStanding commercial browser/mobile subscription providing live and archived meteorologist-created hail, wind, and tornado maps. Public product material says maps show affected areas, hail size/intensity, impacted states/cities/ZIP codes, NOAA reports, and estimated affected structures. No public scalar response dictionary was found, so no Features are authored.
One subscription REST Weather API for historical, real-time, forecast, and climate data. Historical requests use the same product, endpoint grammar, authentication, scalar parameter catalogue, response version, and delivery formats as other Weather API requests; do not split a Historical endpoint into another Source. Requests support single points, point lists, lines, and grids worldwide. Public documentation proves historical dated requests but does not pin one universal archive start because availability depends on subscribed parameters and data sources.
Standing archive of NHC/CPHC advisory forecast track, cone-of-uncertainty and watches/warnings bundles, with related wind-field files, published as downloadable shapefile/KML packages by storm and advisory. This Source preserves forecast-at-issuance evidence and is distinct from final HURDAT2 post-analysis. Geometry remains in source files and is not flattened into speculative scalar Features.
Integrated daily land-station climate dataset from more than 100,000 stations in 180 countries and territories. It supplies station-day temperature, precipitation, snowfall, snow depth, wind, weather-type, and per-datum attribute fields. NOAA provides station files, an all-stations archive, CDO, and the NCEI Access Data Service. Some non-U.S. WMO-contributed data may have commercial-use or re-export restrictions.
Global hourly and synoptic surface-observation product integrating more than 100 source formats into one ISD schema. It publishes station and observation identifiers, UTC timestamps, coordinates, temperature, wind, gust, precipitation, present-weather, and embedded quality codes through NCEI Access Data Service and bulk Global Hourly files.
Existing daily station-summary Source derived from ISD observations. Preserve its API and bulk-file access, add exact GSOD scalar fields beyond the existing minimum-temperature and precipitation fields, and clarify that wind is emitted in knots rather than converted mph. Some non-U.S. WMO-contributed data may have commercial-use or re-export restrictions.
A separately named Version 2 station summary product publishing hourly, daily, and monthly observations in station-year CSV files and monthly summary forms. It is derived from NCEI station datasets but has its own documented 125-column CSV schema, metric bulk files, U.S.-focused station coverage with limited U.S. Air Force locations abroad, and standing per-station/year plus all-station archive access.
One contracted HailStrike OneSite report family, not separate Sources for Basic, Lite and Full tiers. A buyer can order an unrelated site report directly, and the publisher offers high-volume orders for hundreds or thousands of locations. Public materials and samples emit location-attributed hail dates, estimated hail size, a defined 1–10 Derived Hail Index, storm movement, wind-gust history, NEXRAD station provenance, report issue/version and verification identifiers. Public pages conflict on history depth (five years, ten years, or storms since 2011), so no universal archive start is asserted. The product does not establish tornado or tropical-cyclone outputs.
Historical reanalysis API at archive-api.open-meteo.com/v1/archive for arbitrary WGS84 points, multiple coordinates, and ISO dates. It publishes gap-filled, model-assisted—not station-only—hourly weather. Available models include global ERA5 from 1940, ERA5-Land from 1950, and ECMWF IFS from 2017. Paid Professional-or-higher access uses the same syntax on reserved customer endpoints and grants commercial use.
Commercial POST /v4/historical API for buyer-selected point, line, or polygon locations, fields, one-hour or one-day timestep, and ISO-8601 start/end times. The archive is a reanalysis product blending forecasts and observations; core worldwide-land fields generally run from 2000-01-01 through seven days before present, with 7–90-day processing latency depending on field. Each call is limited to a 31-day range.
Commercial global Timeline API for buyer-selected addresses, partial addresses, coordinates, or US ZIP codes and date ranges. It returns historical daily and hourly records in JSON/CSV; paid plans document 50+ years of history, commercial use, downloads, API access, and multi-location request allowances.
Commercial credentialed 65-endpoint Weather API. For `/lightning`, standard access returns global real-time pulse records from the past five minutes, with a 100 km maximum radius and up to 1,000 records per query. The separately available Lightning Enterprise add-on preserves the same product boundary and adds client-defined polygon/bounding-box searches, circles up to 500 km, up to 24 hours per request, archive access from 2016 to the present, and up to 50,000 records per request with `skip` paging. The endpoint emits pulse-level observations, not native area-density, seasonality, denominator, climatology, or completeness outputs. Other Weather API endpoints remain inside this Source but outside this audit.
